The Widow Series
The impact of the death of my quirky, reptile-loving, rosebush-obsessed husband established itself as a muse in my writing a memoir. Visualizing that bereavement emerged while enrolled in the Women’s Art Institute summer intensive at St. Catherine University. Selections from my memoir prompted each panel in which I am again artist and model examining grief and an aging body. My work is a mix of realism and fantasy, offering vignettes of one widow’s journey. These acrylic, watercolor crayon, and watercolor pencil self-portraits explore the devastation, numbness and even humor known by anyone who has lost a life partner.
